Toric Intraocular Lens Implants
Toric IOLs are the answer for patients with astigmatism or “unroundness” of the eye. A normal eye’s cornea and lens have a circular shape but an eye with astigmatism has a longer oval shape. In the past, corrective treatment of this common imperfection included glasses or contacts. Not anymore.
Clariti offers Alcon Acrysof® and Staar™ toric IOLs. Both proven lenses help eliminate the distortion resulting from astigmatism – all from within the eye. In fact, after their procedure, most cataract surgery patients do well with just simple reading glasses. The Toric IOL is designed with the same technology as contact lenses to refocus vision.
Most astigmatisms are not severe enough to require surgery and can be corrected by wearing glasses or contact lenses. But, for cataract patients with pre-existing astigmatism, a Toric IOL could eliminate the need for glasses after surgery, because a Toric IOL has the ability to correct both their cataract and their astigmatism.
